The IICS Secondary School typically offers the following co-curriculars each year depending on student interest: Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, Softball, Tennis, Knowledge Bowl, Math Counts, Band/Choir, and HOSIC (Hands On Student Involvement Conference).  The schedule for 2008-2009 Secondary Co-curricular Athletics and Activities is viewable here. Will I get to travel to other countries if I join an after school activity?

Secondary Students (as well as Grade 6 students)  have the opportunity to participate in co-curricular tournaments organized by CEESA (Central and Eastern European Schools Association); IICS and schools in 17 other countries are part of this association, so students joining Secondary co-curricular teams may have the chance to travel to these other countries and experience other cultures, which enriches our school mission of developing the global citizen.

Will I get to travel even if I don’t join a team?

IICS believes in classrooms without walls. As part of the curriculum, students from grades 4-12 travel with their class to participate in overnight trips to locations throughout Turkey or to neighboring countries. Typically this trip is related to a unit of study in the class. Overnight trips in 2007-8 were to Space Camp Turkey (Izmir), Kazdagi mountains, Bodrum, Bolu, Kas, Mudurnu, Antalya, Gelibolu (Gallipoli), Samos (Greece), and more. In addition to supporting the in class curriculum, these trips help students develop independence and responsibility while also bonding with their classmates.

What other student groups are there aside from after school activities?

The Student Councils (StuCo) for Primary and Secondary bring out the voice of students. They strive to satisfy the needs of the student body, improve their social lives, be liaisons between student body and faculty, improve student life, raise money for causes and charities and work together for whole school events. Aside from the student councils, there are also other student and school initiatives like a burgeoning environmental club, community outreach projects, and more.
